Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus greeted hundreds of happy children today at the Burney fire Hall.
The Burney Volunteer Women’s Auxiliary has been sponsoring the event for over 20 years. This year US Bank, the American Legion, VFW, the Pit River Casino, and KWAN corporation as well as other organizations and individuals from the community helped to organize and support the event.
The auxiliary contacted all the local schools, Head-Start, and preschools so that children could sign up. This year 388 children signed up and every child that signed up received a new unwrapped toy. In addition, more than 80 children who had not signed up came and received a small gift.
Everyone also enjoyed lots of homemade goodies, including fudge, cookies, and hot chocolate prepared by volunteers.
Adding joy to the occasion, many little furry critters found new homes.
Women from the Burney Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary said, “The community, the organizations, and the volunteers all come together to make this a true community event!”
A community with happy children is a happy community. God bless the children of Burney!
