On April 16 ,the Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously, 5-0. to support moving forward toward the purchase of the Roper Building as a new facility for the public library system in Burney.
Numerous people traveled to the meeting in Redding to attend the hearing. Patricia Pell, president of Friends of the Intermountain Library (FOIL); Anna Tracy from library services; Kim Neimer from City of Redding; Monte Keady, Burney Fire District Chief; Bill Murray; Willie Rodriguez, Burney Water District Manager, President of the Burney Chamber of Commerce, and representative of Rotary Club of Burney-Fall River; Lola Harris, from Soroptomist International of Burney-Fall River; Andrew Urlie; and Fran Collier from FOIL all gave testimony. In addition, Carol Salini and Steve Woodrum from Redding also spoke.
After the presentation Larry Lees, County Executive Officer for Shasta County, recommended that the Board move forward toward securing a purchase agreement.
The Board then asked questions and discussed the matter expressing their approval of the project. The Board voted unanimously to approve the proposal as endorsed by Mr. Lees.
McConnell Foundation, Rotary Club of Burney-Fall River, Rotary International, and Soroptomists International of Burney-Fall River have all pledged support for completion of the project as a collaborative venture of Shasta County, City of Redding, and FOIL.
